This painting grew partly from the memory of the satisfaction of accomplishing something on my own—something I wasn’t entirely sure I could do. But alongside that satisfaction lives the discomfort of trying: daring to look foolish or naïve, exposing our fingers to thorns and knowing we might get hurt. Silent Mettle lives somewhere between those sharp edges and the possibility of the bloom.
About Catalysts
Catalysts is a collection of original mixed-media works created in response to stories written by Canadian women for the anthology The Fires We Lit. Each piece began as an encounter with another person’s words and became an independent visual reflection on what remained.
