Catalysts is a collection of original mixed-media works created in response to stories written by Canadian women, most of them working in STEM fields, for the anthology The Fires We Lit.

I approached each story slowly, as I might approach a person I was meeting for the first time: attentively, without preconceptions, allowing its particular energy to reveal itself before trying to give it form. Sometimes an image appeared almost immediately. Other times it required rereading, reflection, and the quiet space between dreaming and waking. The resulting works are not literal illustrations, but encounters between the writers' narratives and my own visual language.

The stories acted as catalysts—setting something in motion that could take a different form through materials, colour, gesture, composition, and image. Each work is therefore both a response to a story and a story of its own: a record of what happened when one person's imagination met another's, and when words and images met somewhere in the middle.
