Being magic. A shapeshifter. A vessel for mountains and vastness. Cheating death and fortune and getting away with it—for a while. Running for our lives and for the lives of our children. Survival, for as long as it lasts.
I encountered the words that sparked this piece while travelling, caught unexpectedly in the crossfire of someone else’s conflict. The air smelled of burned vehicles and fear. Against that surreal backdrop, the words brought burning tears to my eyes.
About Catalysts
Catalysts is a collection of original mixed-media works created in response to stories written by Canadian women for the anthology The Fires We Lit. Each piece began as an encounter with another person’s words and became an independent visual reflection on what remained.
